How Might the Current Candidates Affect Your Bottom Line?

The country has seen an election cycle filled with scandal, name calling, and general unpopularity. On November 8th America will be deciding between two very different candidates for presidents. Most individuals will decide whom to vote for based on several different factors. As a landlord or property manager, you may be thinking which candidate will most likely positively or negatively affect your bottom line. LandlordStation has certain predictions about how landlords will be affected by each candidate's policies.

  • Donald Trump: As a real estate mogul it is expected that Donald Trump and his policies will be business friendly. In addition, he has taken a negative view of removing tax reforms and tax shelters which means it is unlikely landlords will see profit shrinking taxes under Trump. He has also called for eliminating the estate tax, reducing corporate income tax and lowering the tax rate on capital gains and dividends.

  • Hillary Clinton: It is expected that if Hillary Clinton is elected president, her policies will likely include higher taxes on the wealthy while small businesses may expect a tax cut. In the past, she has promised no tax increases for those making less than $250,000 a year while raising taxes on those making $1 million or more a year. While it is unclear how a Clinton presidency would affect the real estate market some predict, she would make few changes that would affect smaller landlords while larger landlords may see higher taxes decrease their profit margin.
